Ambiance.

FICA/SS need to be counted but not colntafed with the more fundamental problems with the income-tax-funded budget.Thinking that we are taking in 2.1 trillion and spending 3.6 trillion is bad .. but it’s actually even worse that it looks because we’re not really taking in 2.1 trillion that is available for on-budget spending.Instead, we are taking in 1.3 trillion and we are spending 2.8 trillion.we are spend more than twice what we are taking in .but because we conflate FICA with the income-tax, some believe that the problem is entitlements and they equate entitlements with SS and they end up not knowing the realities and if you don’t know the realities then you really have no clue what to do and you are equally susceptible to purposeful twisting of the facts.that’ show we end up with the perception that if we cut SS, we’ll reduce the deficit and debt.the folks who are fundamentally opposed to the CONCEPT of SS (and Medicare) rather than weighing in with the real facts they choose to fan the flames of propaganda to the point where even the folks who support SS and Medicare believe the disinformation. We do have a problem with entitlements but it’s not SS. It’s entitlements on the income-tax side of the budget. Medicare Part B and MedicAid.SS disability insurance and Medicare Part A are in deficit but to the tune of about 55 billion.Medicare Part B eats 210 billion and MedicAid eats about 400 billion. In terms of priorities.. fixing SS and even Medicare Part A is not going to do a whole lot.we have to deal with Medicare PartB and MedicAid but the problem is that very few folks know this level of detail so the who debate basically has degraded into a political food fight at a time when we cannot afford it.Changes are going to be required. Tax INCREASES are going to be required especially for those who are receiving Medicare Part B and also MedicAid which needs stricter means-testing.People are going to have a few less I-phones and the latest 2012 car and granite counter-tops. Grandma is going to have to pay more for her hip replacement and that means that daughter/son may well have their inheritance reduced.Grandpa is going to have to take out a reverse mortgage on the house he owns free and clear to pay the monthly home/nursing care he needs.and son/daughter may not inherit his property but just a portion of it.at the same time those who make substantial income are going to have to pay higher taxes to pay for what else we don’t cut especially the military. The people who make good incomes are going to have to decide how big and how expensive a military we MUST HAVE because money for the military is not going to come from low income people nor from seniors both of whom will be paying higher taxes .Now.. I’ll fully admit.. that telling the public this is probably not going to come from Obama but those who say he has failed at leadership and aspire to lead and proclaim themselves to be concerned about our deficit and debt need to tell seniors and the well off the truth. We’re all going to take haircuts. When you take out a mortgage on your home or get a new car payment you have to cut back on other things to make those payments.we’re not going to reduce our debt without making payments .Who among the candidate politicos is willing to be honest about this?
